Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney purposely played off their romance rumors. The pair recently stole hearts as rivals-turned-lovers in Anyone But You and also managed to channel real-life romance rumors into box office success. Not only that, the actor even shared that Sydney was completely in control of the dating speculation. In an April 24 interview with the New York Times, the actor unveiled a lot of facts. Let’s check out the complete details of this story.

Glen Powell said people want what’s on the screen off the screen

The 35-year-old told the outlet, “The two things that you have to sell a rom-com are fun and chemistry. Sydney and I have a ton of fun together, and we have a ton of effortless chemistry. That’s people wanting what’s on the screen off the screen, and sometimes you just have to lean into it a bit—and it worked wonderfully. Sydney is very smart.”

The rom-com’s star and executive producer is in complete favor in turning the rumors in favor. As Sydney noted was “on every call” regarding the unique marketing strategy.

Previously, the Euphoria actress who is engaged to her producing partner Jonathan Davino told the Times, “I was probably keeping everybody over at Sony marketing and distribution awake at night because I couldn’t stop with ideas. I wanted to make sure that we were actively having a conversation with the audience as we were promoting this film because at the end of the day, they’re the ones who created the entire narrative.”

Last April the rumors that the co-stars were involved in an affair surfaced after Glen broke up with model Gigi Paris after a year of dating. On top of that, friendliness during the promotional tour the online speculation went on fire which led to Anyone But You to become one of the highest-grossing films of 2024 so far.

Moreover, Sydney also playfully addresses the buzz surrounding herself and Glen. As during hosting Saturday Night Live in March, she thanked her fiancé for being there to support while the cameras jokingly panned to Glen sitting in the audience. To which Sydney quipped, “That’s not my fiancé. He’s in my dressing room!”

Needless to say, this trick worked in their favor since the film was a big hit at the box office.
