John Travolta becomes emotional introducing the 2023 Oscars ‘In Memoriam Tribute. ‘In Memoriam’ is a special tribute that remembers the late artists of the industry. The actor took the stage at the iconic Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday to pay tribute to those who left the world but will remain in our hearts forever. Moreover, musician Lenny Kravitz was also featured at this tribute playing piano in the song “Calling All Angels.”

Travolta begins his speech by saying, “In this industry, we have the rare luxury of getting to do what we love for a living, and sometimes getting to do it with people that we come to love,” shared Travolta. “And since tonight is a celebration of the work and the accomplishments of our community in this past year, it is only fitting then that we celebrate those we’ve lost, who dedicated their lives to their craft, both in front of and behind the camera.”

Later on, the 69-year-old continues with tears in his eyes, “Through their immeasurable contributions, each of them left an individual and indelible mark that shared and informed us. They’ve touched our hearts, they’ve made us smile, and became dear friends. who we will always remain hopelessly devoted to.”

Moreover, he gave special recognition to singer Olivia-Newton John who passed ways on 8th August of last year. Olivia sang the song “Hopelessly Devoted to You” from Travolta’s  1978 musical, Grease. 

This year ‘In Memoriam’ pays tribute to numerous artists including three-time Oscar-winning singer-songwriter/composer Burt Bacharach, Oscar-winning singer Irene Cara and electronic composer Vangelis, who died at age 79 on May 17, 2022. Moreover, actors like Louise Fletcher, screen legends Angela Lansbury and James Caan, French filmmaker and honorary Oscar recipient Jean-Luc Godard, and German-born director and Oscar nominee Wolfgang Petersen also honored at the event.
