Kansas City Chiefs Give Condolences After 22 Wounded in Shooting at 2024 Super Bowl Parade

The Kansas City Chiefs opened up about the tragedy that hit the Super Bowl Parade 2024. On February 14 gunfire erupted near Union Station while the NFL team was celebrating its victory with a hometown parade. As per the Kansas City Police Department Chief Stacey Graves, the incident killed one person and injured at least 22 persons. The Chiefs shared that none of their player’s family are affected 

The NFL team shared none of their players, coaches, staff or their families were injured. Moreover, all of them are remain “safe and accounted for.”

“We are truly saddened by the senseless act of violence that occurred outside of union Station at the conclusion of today’s parade and rally,” the Chiefs noted. “Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and all of Kansas City.” 

The organization then thanked the Mayor’s office and Kansas City Police Department by adding, “We thank law enforcement officers and first responders who were on-scene to assist.”

Kansas City Fire Department Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins told NBC News about the incident that at least one person was killed and more than 21 other people were injured with gunshot wounds in a shooting at about 2 p.m. CT. 

Kansas City Fire Chief Ross Grundyson said that eight of the injured had “immediately life-threatening” injuries, seven had life-threatening injuries and also six had minor injuries after the shooting.

The person who was shot dead is named Lisa Lopez-Galvan who is one of the DJs of radio station KKFI 90.1.

The statement said in a statement in Facebook, “It is with sincere sadness and an extremely heavy and broken heart that we let our community know that KKFI DJ Lisa Lopez-Galvan, host of Taste of Tejano lost her life today in the shooting at the KC Chiefs’ rally.”

Shortly after the event quarterback Patrick Mahomes offered his condolences for the victims by tweeting that he is “Praying for Kansas City.”

His wife Brittany Mahomes also wrote in her Instagram Story, “Shooting people is never the answer. Praying for Kansas City & America in general, this is rough.”

Chiefs linebacker Drue Tranquill also tweeted, ” Please join me in prayer for all the victims in this heinous act. Pray that doctors & first responders would have steady hands & that all would experience full healing.”
