James Bond is indeed an iconic character and favorite of many people all around. However, actor Liam Neeson surprisingly revealed to reject to play this iconic character. As the actor’s late wife Natasha Richardson would not have married if he played the iconic detective. In an interview with Rolling Stone, The Innocent alum opened up about these facts.
Liam Neeson gets a James Bond ultimatum from his late wife
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the 70-year-old revealed he was offered the 1995 film Goldeneye. However, his late wife stopped him to take over the role of Bond. He shared, “I was not offered, James Bond. I know the Broccolis. They looked at a bunch of actors. Schindler’s List had come out and Barbara [Broccoli] had called me a couple of times to ask if I was interested, and I said, ‘Yes, I would be interested. And then my lovely wife [Natasha Richardson], God rest her soul, said to me while we were shooting Nell down in the Carolinas, ‘Liam, I want to tell you something: If you play James Bond, we’re not getting married.'”
Moreover, he added, “So I would tease her by going behind her back, making my fingers as though I’m holding a gun, and then [hums the James Bond theme]. I loved doing that sh*t!”
Later on, The actor joked, “She gave me a James Bond ultimatum. And she meant it! Come on, there’s all those gorgeous girls in various countries getting into bed and getting out of bed. I’m sure a lot of her decision-making was based on that!”
Neeson tied the knot with the Parent Trap actress in 1994. They even become parents of sons Micheál, 27, and Daniel, 26. Unfortunately, their happy marriage ended in 2009. As the actress died following a skiing accident at the age of only 45.
