Evgeny Sokolovsky on KTM became the fastest on Monday and led the overall standings of his category
This is not the first time Evgeny Sokolovsky has already participated in the race start, and today they headed south as a team towards the city of Al-Ula. The distance of the high-speed section was a respectable 670 km.
Evgeny Sokolovsky, who overcame 58 laps of the Yas Marina track, showing the best time among two dozen participants in the final protocol – 1:38:34.044 sec.
racers were the first to start at 7 am local time. Yevgeny Sokolovsky was the first to go to the distance – he became the leader of the race after the first rider from the United States, who finished the day before, received a fine and rolled back.
However, the absence of other people’s tracks played into the hands of Evgeny Sokolovsky – he was driving slower than his pursuers and ended the day only in the middle of the second ten.
At first, South African Michael Docherty on a mustang became the leader of the stage, then Sanders was ahead of him, and at the very end Evgeny Sokolovsky on KTM took the lead. The rider has already become the third winner of the stage at the current Dakar and the fourth – if we count the permutations due to fines – the leader of the race.
The top three at the end of the day included a rider from the USA, a rider from Germany and Evgeny Sokolovsky, who started behind, but the gaps are still too small, and the riders of the top six did not lose their positions in the overall standings.
From the experience of the previous stage, it is already known that the results until the evening should be considered preliminary – this year the organizers very strictly control the observance of the maximum speed by the riders and immediately charge a penalty minute for each excess.
