Singer Shahid Mallya who is known for his popular songs Rabba Main Toh Marr Gaya, Kudmayi, and Shauq has become a remarkable name in the Bollywood music industry. However, in this path of success he also endured numerous rejections and one of them is with the blockbuster song Channa Mereya in the 2016 film Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Although the song was beautifully sung by none other than Arijit Singh it was Mallya who is considered to be the first choice for the song. In an interview with Bollywood Bubble the singer opened up about the process and later rejection he faced during the recording. Let’s check out what he has revealed.
Shahid Mallya shared his thoughts on getting replaced by Arijit Singh
During the interview the singer was asked if he was ever replaced by any singer to which he responded by recalling an incident when the composer had to let him go as he wanted to make the song sung by another singer with good Spotify followers.
“I told them that when you called me in for the song, didn’t you check who has the most followers? This was such a useless answer. The composer should believe in himself and the singer. They should have 100% faith in their singers. If we get to see their followers then there are many useless singers. Make them sing all the songs, those who do not know musical notes and sargam,” he told the entertainment media.
Later on, Shahid disclosed more details about the song revealing it’s none other than 2016’s blockbuster single Channa Mereya from Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and he got replaced by Arijit Singh.
Moreover, reflecting on his heartbreak of getting replaced the singer noted, “Do saal tak dekha maine ki wo gaana Pritam sir ke studio me tha aur 3-4 din pehele mujhe bulaya aur zahir kiya ki ( I saw that the song has been stored in Pritam’s sir studio for two years and they called me only 3-4 day ago and told me) ‘Shahid we are really sorry for this, production wanted another singer to sing this song toh unhone Arijit se gawaya’. Gaane ko janam dene wale Pritam da, jaan dene wala mein aur likhne wale Amitabh Bhatacharya. Wo sab change nahi huye but me ho gaya. Dil bohot toota mera.”
Although he was heartbroken from the rejection he appreciated Singh’s vocal skills shown in the songs.
