Sofia Vergara didn’t let any joke on her slide. In a recent appearance at the popular Spanish talk show El Hormiguero, Vergara claps back at host Pablo Motos for making fun of her accent. The Modern Family alum who is currently promoting her upcoming Netflix series, Griselda gave a savage response to Motos’s comment about her not speaking English properly. Sofia Vergara brings up her Emmy and Golden Globes nominations to defend herself
On the talk show El Hormiguero, while talking about Vergara’s upcoming Netflix series, Griselda where she played the role of the Colombian drug lord. The simple conversation took a heated turn while Sofia was talking about her award-winning sitcom Modern Family and suddenly got interrupted by host Motos who said while mocking her accent, “How do you say modern family?”
To which the 51-year-old instantly gave a quirky response, saying, “I say it wrong? Oh, because you speak better English than me? Ah.”
Although the host attempted to normalize the situation, the America’s Got Talent judge interrupted him again saying, “How many Emmy nominations do you have in the United States? How many times did they nominate you at the Golden Globes?”
No wonder Vergara has a point since she has been a four-time Emmy nominee and four-time Golden Globe nominee.
Stepping aside from the feud, the actress previously opened up about her most anticipated OTT debut as the Colombian drug lord in Netflix’s upcoming miniseries, Griselda during an interview with Entertainment Tonight.
Talking about her character, Vergara described her character as “a complex person.”
“There are so many nuances to explore in terms of who she was as a drug lord and, of course, as a woman, as a mother,” the Emmy nominee explained. “She was someone who did whatever it took to protect her family.”
The actress continues, “I really wanted to explore that from the point of view of, you know, of her being one of the only women in history to have gone as far as she did.”
For now, Sofia wants to come out of the shadow of her Modern Family character, as she noted, “I wanted no one to think of me or my last role. I wanted to get inside her head and really understand her mentality.”
Griselda will start streaming on Netflix on Jan. 25.
