White Lotus fans brace yourself cause the HBO series’s third season is all set to grace your screen. The third franchise of Mike White’s famous series has already begun filming in Thailand in February. Moreover, like the previous seasons this season will also take place at a luxury hotel’s exotic locations.
While the filming is underway the entertainment network has formally disclosed the cast and location for The White Lotus’ upcoming third season. Needless to say, it’s a big moment for the fans. Therefore, keep reading to get more details about the cast, location and plot of this most anticipated season.
The Cast of Season 3
HBO officially announced the entire cast of The White Lotus season 3 in January. Prominent actors like Leslie Bibb, Dom Htrakul, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey and Tayme Thapthimthong are all set to join the series. Therefore, the returning cast member Natasha Rothwell will reprise her role as spa manager Belinda Lindsey in the inaugural Hawaii-set season.
In December while talking with Entertainment Tonight Rothwell said, “I can’t say anything. I literally can’t. I will say I’ve read all of the scripts and people are in for a treat. It’s bigger than ever. Buckle up.”
Moreover, many fans were curious if Tanya McQuiod played by Jennifer Coolidge, the grief-stricken guest who found comfort in Greg Hunt (Jon Gries) in season 1 and in later seasons when the two’s romance started to fall apart, would return for the third time or not.
Therefore, talking about Coolidge’s charisma White said in a December interview with Deadline, “Jennifer is my friend and everybody loved her in the first season, and I was like, ‘I can’t go to Italy without Jennifer.’ And maybe that’s still the case. Like, maybe you can’t go to Japan without Jennifer, either.”
Meanwhile, Jennifer also said of returning, “Yes, yes. Of course. I mean, I don’t know what Mike has in mind. But yes, I would love [to come back].”
However, unfortunately, based on the second season Coolidge’s character has nothing to do in the third season. Although Rothwell is the only returning star for this upcoming season many other former alums of the show were interested in jumping for the third run. As White previously told Deadline, “There are so many fun actors we’ve worked with so far, so it’s just kind of like who’s available.”
Before the grand announcement, Rothwell shared her excitement about her anticipated return in season three. “I will follow Mike White to the ends of the earth,” the actress gushed.
The Location For the Third Season
As per the sources, the third season is set in Thailand. Consequently, the filming will take place around Koh Samui, Phuket and Bangkok.
In January Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand opened up about their support to the White Lotus team.
“ We are honored to have Amazing Thailand featured as the filming location for the highly anticipated upcoming season of The White Lotus,” said Kiatphaibool. “ The kingdom’s exotic natural beauty, rich historical sites and diverse landscapes are the perfect settings to share our fascinating culture, fantastic cuisine, top-notch wellness and luxury offerings, and most importantly our people and Thai hospitality. Thailand has long been considered one of the world’s favorite filming locations. The White Lotus project will certainly strengthen the kingdom’s status as a preferred filming destination and a beacon of experience-based tourism, inspiring even more visitors to Amazing Thailand.”
No wonder the destination perfectly lines up with the third instalment as previously White said in a making-of-season 2 video, “ The first season we highlighted money and then the second season is sex and I think the third season, it would be maybe a kind of satirical and funny look at death in Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.”
The Plotline of the Third Instalment
However, the third season’s narrative is a complete mystery to the fans White said in a previous interview with EW, “It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus. It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier. I don’t know what people will think, but I am super excited, so at least for my own barometer, that’s a good thing … I’m super excited about the content of the season.”
Talking about the release date it is likely to grace our small screens in 2025.
Without any doubt, the third season is going to be as grand as the previous ones. Season one has 20 Emmy nominations across 13 categories and saw 10 wins in its bag which is the most of any show that year while the second instalment has earned 23 Emmy nominations.
For now, all we can do is keep waiting for the third season’s grand entry.
