The Gimmicks, a popular adult animated series from Web3 animation company Toonstar, will premiere a second season on the Avalanche blockchain. On Thursday, October 27th, the new season will make its debut at Avalanche Creates, a Bay Area gathering put on by Ava Labs, a software provider that supports the Avalanche ecosystem. The Gimmicks crew will welcome Mark Consuelos (Riverdale) as an executive producer and voice actor.

The Family Guy and Star Trek: Lower Decks writers “The Daves,” Dave Ihlenfeld and David Wright, will continue in their roles as executive producers. “House of Chico,” the new season, follows rising star Rocky Romero (also known as Chico el Luchador) to his Lucha roots in Mexico. Additionally, in keeping with Toonstar’s dedication to diversifying the voices in animation, new voices Mike Tenango and Alberto Portillo will join the writing team and the production team, respectively. Top Latino performers and influencers will also appear in the upcoming season, including:

  • Jairo Orozco + Bryan Rojo
  • Jesus Sepulveda
  • Eric Ochoa
  • Fabian Alomar
  • Laura DiLorenzo

Rocky Romero stated that “there is a well-documented paucity of varied perspectives, especially Latino, in Hollywood.” I’m excited to be a part of this team that will highlight up-and-coming Latino talent and embrace new technology to make even more voices heard.

Early on, The Gimmicks adopted Web3, allowing NFT holders to have an effect on plotlines and character arcs. Contrary to industry expectations, the strategy was very effective, maintaining high levels of audience engagement and retention across the whole season. In only three months, more over 1 million DIC punches (voting and messaging) and more than 70 thousand recurring monthly on-chain activities were logged thanks to Toonstar’s patented technology. With Upvoting, a Reddit-style forum, and “Hot or Not,” a rating system akin to Rotten Tomatoes, Toonstar will provide options for The Gimmicks community to communicate on-chain in the upcoming season.

A new era for blockchains with very immediate transaction finality began with the introduction of Avalanche in September 2020. Avalanche supports more than 500 dApps now and protects billions of dollars’ worth of value while having little effect on the environment. As The Gimmicks adds even more interactive features and NFTs, Avalanche’s demonstrated speed, dependability, and eco-friendliness make sense. The success of Web3 in Hollywood depends on Avalanche being able to offer the flawless Web3 support necessary to strike a balance between imaginative storytelling and interesting community involvement (Hollywood 3.0).

According to John Attanasio, CEO and co-founder of Toonstar, “Audience engagement and retention are declining across all platforms with traditional Hollywood material, but our strategy is bucking the trend.” We knew the Avalanche team truly understood Hollywood 3.0 and could offer the greatest technology and support to help us dominate the industry as soon as we began speaking with them.

According to John Nahas, vice president of business development at Ava Labs, “Toonstar is changing entertainment, utilising Web3 features in ways important to both plot and fan experience.” “They’re erasing boundaries in novel ways that are opening the way for Hollywood to enter Web 3. We look forward to Avalanche driving their path.”

At their Ciel Creatives Studios, Avalanche will hold the Season 2 premiere event, which will be followed by a Q&A with Toonstar and Avalanche executives. Throughout the season, Toonstar will make more NFTs available to the audience, pushing the frontier of participatory storytelling and social good
